The flow of Qi in the
body follows certain pathways called Meridians along which lie
specific points. When Qi flow is impeded or blocked in a Meridian
this affects the smooth flow of Qi and pain and, later, illness
will develop. This can be likened to placing a rock in a small
creek. The water will flow around (scatter), slow down
(weaken) and may finally stagnate (become blocked). The water
becomes less clear and will gradually be polluted and unhealthy,
even lethal. Removing the rock or strengthening the water
flow so that the rock is washed away will restore the creek to its
normal clarity and vitality.
Just as
the spring rains freshen, strengthen and revitalize a stream, if we
are already healthy, Qigong will increase the existing sense of
well being and life will be richly enhanced.
Likewise, if we follow
Qigong practices regularly, in time, we will strengthen the energy
flow, eliminate any blockages and balance our energy so our body
functions will return to normal. Then we will be healthy and
pain free.
Qi flow
can also be restored and harmonised using acupuncture, herbs, food,
exercise and lifestyle changes.
Qigong
is a perfect Practice to enable one to continue to re-center with
the natural flow of Qi within and without of the body. By focusing
on the Lower Dan Tien we are able to drop out of the incessant
mental noise and activity in the head and enter a very Still and
Sacred Place within our own body. After Practice we feel deeply at
ease, calm, joyous and vitally alive with Present
Awareness.
Qigong
is not an exercise. In fact it is the opposite of the western
concept of exercise. Very little exertion is required to get an
optimal result. The practice of Qigong allows us to become more
aware of the internal workings of our bodies. We become more
sensitive to the flow of Energy (Life Force) within our bodies and
thus to any imbalances and blockages affecting our
Qi.
The
practitioner settles the mind into the ocean of universal Qi within
the Lower Dan Tien. Qi has Universal Consciousness and therefore
knows far more about what healing is required than the individual.
So we learn to follow and move with the Qi instead of forcing
ourselves into certain movements and postures. So an important
aspect of Qigong is to ‘forget oneself, leave all self-concern
behind, and drop into the life-stream within the body’.
The
minutes spent in Qigong techniques are the most productive minutes
of the day. The mind and body will both function more
productively. Thoughts, plans and projects crystallize, self
healing forces take effect and begin to correct strains, imbalances
and abnormalities. All bodily functions, including digestion, blood
circulation, blood pressure, heart beat and breathing begin to
normalize. In our daily activities we don’t get so tired. Our
mind is focused. What makes us fatigued on a normal day is
usually not the work itself but the inner strain and confusion
caused by the Personal Mind constantly taking its Awareness away
from the Qi within the body.
But as
soon as we think and act from the Centre, we relax, our body knows
exactly what to do and everything falls into place. Healing occurs
on all levels.
Thus
Qigong has been found to be effective in treating a wide range of
diseases and problems. These include asthma, back pain, bowel
and bladder problems, headaches, high blood pressure, menstrual
discomforts, arthritis, sciatic pain, insomnia, stress, depression,
digestive disorders. In fact Qigong can assist with almost
any disease, but is most effective with chronic conditions, pain
and those diseases listed by most Western doctors as
psychosomatic.
If we
eat the right foods and feel at peace with ourselves by living in
tune with the messages from our body we can ultimately become
virtually immune to disease. Our Life Force can become so strong it
can handle all issues without getting harmed. It can dissolve
all tensions, mental and physical. We accomplish more, learn
faster and think more clearly. We also have increased strength and
vitality, enjoy speedy recovery from surgery and injury and have
increased enjoyment of life. Old age is just as healthy and
fulfilling as other stages of life. We can expect to enjoy long
life in good health. |
